Job Description

The Pyramid is producing a number of new and existing sustainability projects, designed to reduce our carbon emissions and engage with members of the community to drive positive local change. Projects include our Zero Waste Community Shop, Community Fridge, Book Swap, Bike Library, Let’s Grow Together (food growing), and recycling initiatives, as well as events and activities, such as film days, repair cafes and cooking lessons. We aim to support local people who are experiencing food and fuel poverty, and enable people to save money and resources, whilst reducing waste. We also seek to improve sustainability and reduce carbon emissions across our activities and in the general use of the building. 

The Sustainability Projects Assistant will be involved in the practical delivery of our projects and will have the opportunity to shape our future work in this area. 

Please note this is a fixed term work placement with a maximum duration of 26 weeks 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with other members of the Pyramid team: 
  • Devise, produce and promote events and activities to support and enable local sustainability initiatives; evaluate uptake and impact. 
  • Work with partners as appropriate, including contacting existing and potential partners. 
  • Collect surplus food from our partners and stock our Community Fridge and Zero Waste Shop, including lifting and moving heavy items, e.g. 20kg food bags. Ensure compliance with statutory food handling and storage requirements at all times. Monitor use and complete reports. 
  • Work in our Zero Waste Shop, assisting with general duties, including supporting Shop users, taking payments, etc. 
  • Manage our Book Swap and Bike Library resources, ensuring appropriate procedures are followed. 
  • Assist community members in a friendly and knowledgeable manner; provide guidance and answer enquiries about our projects and activities and wider sustainability initiatives, signposting further information and support where necessary. 
  • Measure and monitor The Pyramid’s sustainability measures. 
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by The Pyramid. 

Essential skills, experience and qualifications

No experience required

Number of Hours Per Week 21 hours per week for 26 weeks

Working pattern and contracted hours (including any shift patterns)
The working pattern would be over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday or Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, to be agreed with the successful candidate.

Wages

Salary will be paid monthly and will be £12.60 per hour
