Terms and Conditions of Membership

Our aim is to ensure that you have a positive and enjoyable experience throughout your time in Membership with Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Manufacturers (“the Chamber”). We also hope you will benefit fully from all available services and opportunities we offer. The following terms and conditions therefore are intended to be as simple as possible.

  1. Membership is open to companies and other organisations regardless of their location. Members do not have to have a base in the Greater Glasgow area in order to become a Member. Chamber Membership is open to companies or other organisations and separate business divisions and not to departments within organisations.
  2. The Chamber Membership is a business entitlement rather than a personal one. All employees of the Member Company are therefore entitled to use of all of the Chamber benefits and services when working on behalf of their Member employer.
  3. Membership in the first year is valid for 12 months from the month payment is received by the Chamber.
  4. Membership is for a minimum period of 12 months. Members will automatically be invoiced for the next membership period as each 12 month term expires.
  5. From time to time Chamber Members’ details may be made available to third parties as part of a mailing list. You may opt out of this at any time.
  6. The Chamber regularly communicates with Members by email, post and telephone. We aim to only approach our Members with information which we believe could be of interest to them. This is an integral part of the Membership and by entering into Membership you agree to be contacted by the Chamber. The regular communication can be terminated at the Member’s request at any time.
  7. From time to time Members may be contacted by the Chamber’s carefully selected partners in order to make them aware of certain membership benefits eg private healthcare cover, foreign currency exchange, HR, Health & Safety, tax and legal insurance cover, Mitchell Library. You may opt out of this at any time.
  8. We consider our Chamber a community, so we are all about bringing people together to form relationships and encourage trade. Facilitating introductions is at the heart of what we do. For this purpose, we will introduce relevant companies to one another upon request. You may opt out of this at any time.
  9. We maintain a database of all of our members. Parts of the information provided by you/your business will be published in Glasgow Business magazine/eZine and on the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce Portal which will also include a hyper link to your own site and the details of your main contact for Glasgow Chamber.
  10. Members are entitled and encouraged to take advantage of the various opportunities the Chamber offers but there is never any obligation or pressure to use any of the services provided by the Chamber, its partners or through offers provided by members for members. Any agreements between the Member and the Chamber’s partners are strictly between the two parties, and are not the responsibility of the Chamber.
  11. The Chamber Membership benefits are subject to change without notice and are subject to terms and conditions available from the Chamber.
  12. The Chamber Membership fee is non-refundable and Membership is non-transferable.
  13. Single Membership entitles the Member to one standard entry in the Members Directory, located in The Chamber's Members Portal, all under one company name. Similarly only one company name can be used for any other Chamber publications.
  14. The Members Directory features company contact information, including details of the principal contact, held by us.  This information must only be used for individual contact with another member to introduce an opportunity or service and the member company would need to opt in to any distribution channels.  The information must not be used to compile your own database listing, in breach of GDPR laws.
  15. Membership fees are based on the membership package option chosen. Member companies cannot choose a package set for companies with fewer than the number of employees in the Member organisation at the relevant location.
  16. It is an expressed term of the membership agreement that the member will inform the Chamber about any changes in the number of employees or other vital aspects of the business. The Chamber may consider applications for a higher category of membership in individual cases.
  17. By submitting an application form you are entering into a legal agreement to join the Chamber. You may cancel the agreement by giving the Chamber a written notice within 14 days of the date of the agreement.
  18. The Membership is subject to Chamber Board approval and the Chamber reserves a right to refuse Membership without disclosing any reason.
  19. Membership is subject to the provisions of the By-laws of the Chamber (available on request) and in the event of a conflict between these terms and conditions and the By-laws, the By-laws shall prevail.
  20. The Chamber shall have no liability for any losses suffered by a Member as a result of using services offered by a fellow Member. The Chamber shall have no responsibility for advice given or services provided by its third party service providers even though such providers may have been introduced to the Member by the Chamber.
  21. The Chamber reserves the right to withdraw, resign or cancel a company’s membership at any time and for any reason.

THE BRITISH CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE
The Chamber is part of a network of 53 Chambers of Commerce across the UK accredited by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC). One purpose of the Chamber is to “influence the function of …any governmental body”. This objective is stated in the Chamber’s ‘Articles of Association’. We will provide BCC with your company’s email address in order for BCC to conduct research into the impact of policies on your business.

WHAT DOES THE BCC DO WITH YOUR DATA?
BCC will not contact your business for any other purpose other than to notify you of an opportunity to respond to a national policy survey. Each year, BCC conducts around five surveys which directly help us develop and shape Government policy across a range of areas, including business taxation, international trade, and employment. The data from these surveys are completely anonymised and aggregated so that individual responses cannot be identified. The anonymised data are then presented in closed briefings with stakeholders across UK Government, and shared publicly through BCC’s press team.

The purpose of carrying out the surveys is to produce reports, which BCC and the Chambers can then use in their activities in promoting and protecting the interests of UK businesses; in other words, they are part and parcel of the function and purpose of BCC and the Chamber.  There is never any marketing or commercial purpose to the surveys, and BCC does not carry out surveys on behalf of any third party.

You can contact us if you do not wish to be contacted by BCC, and you will have the opportunity to unsubscribe from BCC’s research mailing list at any point.
