Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, fun loving and caring Trainee Early Years Support Worker to join our professional early learning and childcare workforce on placement, at Puddle Lane Early Learning and Childcare Centre, over a period of 26-weeks. Puddle Lane provides high quality learning and childcare for the local community delivered by a professional, skilled staff team.
This is an exciting time to be part of Puddle Lane. Ongoing development will help us to ensure the stability of the centre and continued growth, ultimately helping us to support even more children and families. We are looking for like-minded, passionate, and committed people to join us on this journey. The role will be centred around the health and wellbeing of children. This includes the organisation of the centre’s lunchroom to facilitate positive mealtime experiences. Working alongside practitioners as part of the nursery team and assisting in keeping children safe as they come together, make friends and relax in a healthy and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
The role includes ensuring children experience mealtimes in a relaxed and unhurried atmosphere, free from distractions. The Support Worker will support the team to ensure children’s rights and opinions are respected by developing an understanding of their likes and dislikes, special dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances. As well as valuing their individual care and wellbeing routines throughout the day.
The successful candidate will
• Learn, understand, and put into practice the national guidelines for Early Years in line with the Scottish Early Years Framework.
• Be part of a team who provide a holistic early childhood curriculum in line with the Curriculum for Excellence and person achievement in play.
• Helping children’s social and emotional development through games, stories, music and art activities to make learning fun and to help grown their confidence in line with the curriculum for excellence.
• Observe children and report to the child’s key person on significant events within the daily routine.
• Support staff with children’s care and wellbeing during key moments of transition within the routine of the day.
• Be responsive to the specific care and wellbeing needs of all children.
• Support practitioners with the wellbeing needs of children.
• Ensure the environment is well organised, clean, and hygienic in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Comply with all Kibble policies, national guidance, and legislation relevant to the post.
• Undertake any other tasks relevant to the duties of the post as delegated by the Nursery Manager.
Essential skills, experience and qualifications
A recognised early years qualification is desirable, although it is not an essential requirement of this post.
The candidate should have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in early years.
Good communication skills with children and adults.
Enthusiastic and eager to learn.
Number of Hours Per Week 20 hours per week for 26 weeks
Working pattern and contracted hours (including any shift patterns)
10am – 2pm
Salary will be paid monthly and will be £12.60 per hour

Details of Training Provided
All applicants are required to complete an induction and mandatory online training, covering topics such as cyber security, child and adult protection, data protection, manual handling, fire safety awareness, introduction to equality and diversity, amongst others. In addition, we would like to tailor training to the needs of the individual.
We would look to undertake a short training needs analysis to determine training that would be of most benefit to the applicant. Although not an exhaustive list, this could include training such as: digital skills; medication training; allergy awareness; children, baby and child first aid; food hygiene; or access to childcare. Training provided would sit within the budget allocated by the funding.
