As Glasgow marks its 850th anniversary, we might head to the pub to celebrate. One of the city’s modern legacies born out of the pub now continues to ripple across the globe. People Planet Pint (PPP), the informal sustainability meetup launched in a Glasgow pub during COP26, has grown into an international movement spanning 140+ cities and connecting over 35,000 people worldwide.
Started in Glasgow during COP26 by Small99 Founder, Adam Bastock, People Planet Pint is a relaxed event bringing together those with a shared passion (or curiosity) for sustainability in all its forms.
As a continuing legacy from COP26, People Planet Pint has grown from Glasgow and brought people together from Milton Keynes to Melbourne, Skipton to Singapore. The meetups offer an informal space to bring likeminded people together who may be concerned about local climate risks as well as global issues on the environment, but who might not see themselves as activists.
People Planet Pint now hosts around 80 events every month across 15 countries. Attendees range from small business owners to students, to engineers, comedians, and local concerned citizens, all coming together to explore how to make sustainable change in their community.
As the city reflects on 850 years of transformation, PPP perfectly embodies the spirit of Glasgow’s anniversary theme: inspiring accelerated change for a better, more sustainable future. It also demonstrates how the conversations started at COP26 continue to evolve, and how they’ll influence action long after COP30.
Adam Bastock, Founder of Small99 and People Planet Pint: “PPP began here during COP26 as a simple idea - to bring people together for an informal chat about sustainability. Four years on, it’s connecting communities across the world and proving that meaningful change starts locally, often over a pint!”
