George Square project update and statue restoration works

If you have visited the Square in recent weeks, you may have noticed that construction of the site hoarding is well underway and nearing completion. The contractor is currently finalising the graphic panels, with this phase expected to be completed by Wednesday, 14th May.

Ahead of the main construction works beginning in June, the site will be occupied by the statue conservation contractor. Starting the week commencing 12th May, they will begin assessing and carefully removing the statues from their plinths for off-site restoration.

This removal process is expected to take approximately two weeks. Please note that the Sir Walter Scott Monument and the Cenotaph will be restored in situ, while the remaining statues will be returned once restoration is complete.
