As the world rapidly shifts towards electric, ScottishPower is leading the charge in this green revolution. By partnering with local businesses to adopt eco-friendly technologies such as EV chargers, ScottishPower is making sustainable driving accessible to all.
The tourism and hospitality industries are increasingly adopting electric travel solutions as a response to the growing demand for sustainable practices and eco-friendly travel alternatives. By integrating electric vehicles into their operations, these industries are significantly reducing their carbon footprint and becoming the first-choice destination for environmentally conscious travellers. To support this, ScottishPower is building the Electric Tourist Trail to turn participating sites into public electric charging hubs for their guests.
The Electric Tourist Trail is a project that spans the UK with a network of public electric vehicle chargers. In Scotland, it started in Glasgow at Whitelee Windfarm and went to the Glasgow Science Centre. The trail is always expanding and now includes the newly opened entertainment facility, Golf It!. Our charging solutions not only help businesses attract more customers but also supports their environmental credentials.
To help promote the trail to tourists and businesses alike, ScottishPower has partnered with renowned EV adventurers and world record holders, Chris and Julie Ramsey. The couple are celebrated for their remarkable Pole to Pole expedition in which they journeyed from the Magnetic North Pole to the South Pole in an all-electric vehicle. This dynamic duo bring a wealth of experience in and an unwavering passion for green technology.
Their partnership with ScottishPower showcases the benefits of green tech solutions for businesses, local communities, and the environment. By creating a network of sustainable tourist destinations, ScottishPower is making it easier for businesses to become public charging hosts.
Chris and Julie Ramsey, Pole to Pole: ‘With the 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars from the UK government, it’s vital for businesses to start thinking now about putting public electric vehicle charging points into their sites.
If businesses have suitable land that is available, ScottishPower will lease that land, install the chargers and not only that, but the business owner will receive revenue from every charge that happens on their site, and it’s 100% renewable energy!'
