All eyes will be on Aberdeen, Scotland in September 2025 when the offshore energy community gathers from 2-5 September for the SPE Offshore Europe (OE25) conference and exhibition.
Tens of thousands of attendees from around the world will gather in the energy capital of Europe at this most critical of times for the offshore energies industry as it transitions to a new integrated-energy approach.
David Whitehouse, SPE Offshore Europe 2025 Executive Committee Chair and Chief Executive of Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) said: “It is a momentous time for the UK’s oil and gas industry. Decisions made in the run up to OE25, will not only shape the North Sea’s future but also profoundly impact jobs, communities, and companies across Europe.
“OE25 will be a rallying point for industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to collaborate on solutions that will show how oil and gas can meet current demand while helping build the low-carbon systems in the years to come.”
David Whitehouse will introduce the opening ceremony on 2 September alongside the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Councillor David Cameron and 2025 SPE President, Olivier Houzé. The 90-minute opening plenary will kick-off when Norway’s Minister for Climate and the Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, will join Louise Kingham, Senior VP Europe and Head of Country at bp, along with a UK government representative, to deliver opening addresses under the conference theme ‘Unlocking Europe’s Potential in Offshore Energy’.
A panel debate will follow comprising Juergen Maier, Chair, GB Energy; John Evans, Chief Executive Officer, Subsea 7; Luciano Vasques, Chief Executive Officer, Ithaca and Zoe Barnes, Partner at Everoze, Chair of the UK Floating Wind Taskforce and Non-Executive Director, Offshore Wind Growth Partnership, moderated by Louise Stewart, Director of External Relations and Commercial Affairs at OEUK.
Russell Borthwick, Chief Executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) is also a member of the SPE Offshore Europe 2025 Executive Committee which has curated the four-day conference programme. He called for a show of strength by industry at OE25: “Despite many headwinds, the North Sea can be at the heart of the UK’s industrial future as demonstrated by the recent paper submitted to the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) by OPITO, OEUK and AGCC which highlighted that successful industrial strategy should be co-designed between government and industry and be focused on business, people, skills, places and communities.
“Industry needs to turn up in force at OE25 as a show of strength to policymakers that we are collectively up for it. So, whether you are thinking of exhibiting or just attending as a delegate….do it.”
The conference programme will feature twelve strategic panel sessions, eighteen technical sessions and two fireside chats. Topics will include global perspectives, energy security, the future energy mix, decarbonisation, safety, hydrogen, CCS, funding, supply chain and the oil & gas future, all delivered in a range of engaging formats. Petrobras will present two market focused sessions as it seeks suppliers for its offshore operations in Brazil. Full details of the sessions and speakers can be found on the Offshore Europe website.
For the first time, two half-day Talent Investment & Diversity Events (TIDE) will be held every day to support career development and enhance leadership skills through a series of workshops, fireside chats and panel sessions.
The OE25 exhibition will span three halls and feature an Energy Transition Theatre, Offshore Wind Hub and Theatre, North Sea Futures Theatre, Digitalisation Zone, Future Talent Hub and First Time Exhibitor Zone.
SPE Offshore Europe is organised by The Offshore Europe Partnership, a joint venture between RX Global (Reed Exhibitions) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). It is free to attend and registration is now open.
