Annie Lowry Thomas and Hacks present After Party

Tron Theatre - Changing House 4 and 5 October, 7:45pm Summerhall, Tech Cube Zero 11 and 12 October, 7:00pm (50mins)

A Labour Government, Oasis on tour, a new dawn has broken and it’s 2024. Things can only get worse…

Annie Lowry Thomas presents After Party, a show about personal and political comedowns growing up in the aftermath of New Labour.

Blending theatre, documentary footage and autobiography, After Party begins by welcoming the audience to their own after party, soundtracked by live DJ Erfan Shojanoori, before charting the manifold political events that have shaped the lives of millennials; from the rise and fall of New Labour, to the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum, to the Brexit vote, through Tory austerity, Partygate, post Pandemic political fatigue and the recent Labour Landslide.

Audiences are asked to help Annie build a new political party, while at the same time are encouraged to think of themselves at a ‘gaff’ in the early hours of the morning. Annie pours champagne while dancing to Britpop, plays more extreme versions of ‘Shag, Marry, Kill,’ and even asks a volunteer to play her mum in 1997. In the end, After Party asks how we continue to find hope, when things only seem to be getting worse…

After Party is produced by Hacks (Annie Lowry Thomas and Conner Milliken) and an early version was performed as part of Sprint Festival at Camden People’s Theatre in 2021. After Party received funding from Creative Scotland and undertook a Tramway Supports digital residency with Tramway in 2021 where Annie Lowry Thomas created a mockumentary about the making of the show. After Party debuted at Tramway in 2023.
