CCA Glasgow opens “life-bestowing cadaverous soooooooooooooooooooot,” a research exhibition and live programme collated by Rae-Yen Song

In this research exhibition and live programme, Rae-Yen Song serves as both artist and researcher.

Song will present new work, and has invited artists and thinkers to come together to speculate on the potentials of world-building, in this exhibition and live programme running from February 24th to May 18th, 2024.

The exhibition boasts an impressive lineup of contributors whose works span a diverse range of mediums and concepts. Together, they form a collaborative space for speculation, experimentation, and imagination.

At the heart of "life-bestowing cadaverous soooooooooooooooooooot" lies an exploration of the interplay between life and death, as symbolised by the enigmatic title. Through research and collaboration with (international artists) others, artist Rae-Yen Song contemplates the cyclical nature of creation and decay, and through a series of artworks, prototypes, experiments, and research practices, the exhibition invites viewers to speculate on the alternative futures that can be built from the debris of the increasingly unliveable present.

CCA’s Head of Programme Sabrina Henry comments, “Rae-Yen’s exhibition marks the beginning of what CCA hopes will be a transformative journey, where we join artists in their exploration to embrace art and culture’s potential for societal change.

Amidst a turbulent global landscape, Rae-Yen’s research and exhibition is a gesture towards connection and an invitation to imagine the forms of life that can emerge.”

The exhibition speaks to a phase of deep potential, the gathering of thoughts, the continuity of change, the sharing of ideas, and the sensations of new growth which will shape a subsequent stage in the cycle — to take form as a major solo exhibition at Tramway in 2025.
