The Merchants House of Glasgow proudly announces the awarding of over £100,000 in grant funding to support charities and organisations across Glasgow and the West of Scotland. This significant contribution underscores the House’s commitment to make a positive impact on the local community.
Lord Dean of Guild, Andrew McFarlane (pictured), said “At the Merchants House of Glasgow, our mission is to make a positive impact on the lives and experiences of the people of Glasgow and the west of Scotland. Through these grants, we aim to empower local charities who are addressing critical issues in Glasgow”.
The grants will benefit a wide range of causes, including healthcare, education and social welfare, reflecting the House’s dedication to addressing the diverse needs of the community.
Selina Hales, Chief Executive of Refuweegee, who received a £5000 grant, said “People make connections over food –whether that is our volunteer drivers chatting with people at their door as they deliver food parcels, or people coming together to eat lunch from our community kitchen, food brings us together and gives us a chance to speak to people and build relationships. Thank you so much to the Merchants House - this will reach so many people, nourishing stomachs and souls.”
Meanwhile, Chrisetta Mitchell, Development Manager of The Leanne Fund SCIO, receiving £7000, said “The Leanne Fund in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde paediatric Cystic Fibrosis team will ensure that children affected by CF across the region will have access to sport and fitness equipment or classes through their Get Active Glasgow project. Our project is helping children affected by the condition to maintain and improve their overall fitness and importantly their lung health.”
The Lord Dean continued, emphasising the collective impact of community engagement, stating “In times of need, it is our duty to stand together and support those who require assistance. The Merchants House has a rich history of charitable work, and this funding initiative continues that legacy, enabling us to amplify our positive influence on Glasgow and the West of Scotland”.
The Merchants House of Glasgow has been an integral part of the city for over 400 years, contributing significantly to its development and growth since its establishment in 1605. Throughout its long history, it has evolved into a prominent charitable organisation. In the past five years alone, it has generously donated over £2.5 million to support local charities and individuals in need.
