Essential bridge joint replacement and inspection work on M8 Kingston Bridge complex continues Monday 17 February 2025

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will undertake essential bridge joint replacement works and reactive bridge inspections across the M8 Kingston Bridge Complex. Work will continue on Monday, 17th February 2025, and will take place each weeknight between 8pm and 6am.
The joint replacement work is scheduled to continue until 24th March 2025, while reactive inspections will run until May 2025. Weekly updates detailing traffic management arrangements will be available at swtrunkroads.scot.
Traffic Management for Week Commencing Monday, 17th February 2025
The following overnight road closures will be in place:
Monday 17th – Tuesday 18th February 2025
- M8 Westbound:
- Total closure of the Junction 19 (Newton Street) on-slip. Traffic will be diverted via A804 Netwon Street to Argyle Street, Douglas Street, and Waterloo Street to rejoin the M8 Westbound.
- Total closure of the Junction 17 on-slip. Traffic will follow the A804 Charing X and A804 Newton Street to Argyle Street, Douglas Street, and rejoin at Waterloo Street.
- Lane closures between Junctions 18 and 19.
- Lane 4 and 5 closures between Junctions 19 and 21.
- M8 Eastbound:
- Total closure from Junction 22 to Junction 19. Traffic will be diverted via Kinning Park (Seaward Street), Paisley Road West, Kingston Street, King George V Bridge, Broomielaw, and North Street.
- Additional slip road closures:
- M77 Northbound Junction 1 to M8 Eastbound Junction 22: Traffic will follow the same diversion route.
- M8 Eastbound West Street on-ramp: Diversion via Kingston Street, King George V Bridge, Broomielaw, Anderson Quay, Clyde Expressway, ending at North Street.
Wednesday, 19th February 2025
- M8 Westbound:
- Total closure of M8 Kingston main carriageway at Junction 19. Traffic will be diverted via Junction 19 Newton Street off ramp, Argyle Street, Douglas Street, and Waterloo Street. Stobcross on ramp and Waterloo on ramp will remain open.
- Junction 19 (Newton Street) on-slip closed. Traffic will follow A804 North Street, Broomielaw, A77 Glasgow Bridge, Nelson Street, Paisley Road West, and Helen Street to rejoin at Junction 24.
- Junction 17 on-slip closed. Traffic will follow a similar route via Charing X, Newton Street, Broomielaw, A77 Glasgow Bridge, Nelson Street, and rejoin at Junction 24.
Thursday 20th – Friday 21st February 2025
- M8 Westbound:
- Total closure of the Junction 17 on-slip. Traffic will follow Charing X, Newton Street, Broomielaw, A77 Glasgow Bridge, Nelson Street, Paisley Road West, and Helen Street to rejoin at Junction 24.
- Total closure of the Junction 19 Anderston off-slip. Traffic will be diverted via Junction 24, Helen Street, and then M8 Eastbound to Junction 19 Bothwell Street, right onto Blythswood Street, to Cadogan Street, left onto Douglas Street and finally right onto Argyle Street.
- Total closure of the Waterloo Street on-slip. Diversion via Pitt Street, Bothwell Street, Wellington Street, and Robertson Street.
- Total closure of the Newton Street on-slip. Diversion via North Street, Broomielaw, and A77 Glasgow Bridge.
- Total closure of the Stobcross on-slip. Traffic will be diverted via Argyle Street, Robertson Street, Broomielaw, and A77 Glasgow Bridge.
- Nearside lane closures between Junctions 18 and 20, with Lane 5 remaining open.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please be conscious of other roadworks across the M8 corridor through Glasgow, any vehicles entering the LEZ as part of the diversion route must always follow the diversion signage. Any vehicles that deviate from the published diversion route may be issued with penalty charge notice(s) from Glasgow City Council should they be captured out with the agreed diversion route.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
These schemes have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Glasgow City Council, and other key stakeholders
These schemes will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition and safety of the structures and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
