Scotland’s most common workplace challenges revealed in new guide Future Proof Learning publishes its top 10 workplace insights drawn from a decade of coaching, training and people development work with more than 200 organisations across Scotland and the UK.
Executive coaching and people development consultancy Future Proof Learning has released a new free guide sharing the 10 most significant workplace insights from its first ten years in business.
The guide, drawn from work with over 200 organisations, 3,000 leaders and teams, and more than 5,000 hours of coaching across the public, private and third sectors, identifies the patterns and challenges that consistently emerge in workplaces of all sizes.
Among the findings, FPL highlights that the most common issue it encounters is managers being promoted without any meaningful development support – a pattern the consultancy describes as setting both new managers and their teams up to struggle. The guide also points to psychological safety as the single most important foundation for team performance, and argues that feedback remains the most underused and cost-effective development tool available to organisations.
Other insights address the outsized influence of middle managers on organisational performance, the role of everyday interactions in shaping workplace culture, and why change initiatives typically fail due to human factors rather than process or structure.
The guide also reinforces a finding that has been widely recognised across the people development sector: that employees most often leave their manager, not their organisation. FPL argues that investing in management quality is as much a retention and recruitment strategy as it is a development priority.
