WEEE Scotland rebrands to Circulus, reflecting expanded circular economy ambition

WEEE Scotland, a recognised leader in responsible electronic resource management, has today announced its rebrand to Circulus, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s evolution and its long‑term commitment to accelerating the circular economy in Scotland and beyond.

The rebrand was officially unveiled at a brand launch event in Glasgow last week, attended by customers, partners and supporters from across Scotland’s circular economy ecosystem, including Circular Glasgow, Zero Waste Scotland, the University of Glasgow and the Scottish Investment Bank, alongside long‑standing customer partners and friends of the business.

Founded over 12 years ago, WEEE Scotland was established to challenge the idea that electronic waste is inevitable. As the organisation has grown, its work has expanded far beyond end‑of‑life recycling — supporting organisations to retain value in electronic assets through repair, reuse, remanufacturing and secure lifecycle management. The new Circulus brand reflects this broader role, while staying true to the values on which the business was built.

“This rebrand is not a change in direction — it’s a reflection of how far we’ve come,” said Gerry Docherty, Managing Director of Circulus. “Our purpose has always been to progress the transition to a circular economy. What’s changed is the scale of the challenge, and the opportunity. Circulus represents systems, continuity and collaboration — and a platform built for the next decade of growth.”

The name Circulus is Latin for circle and is derived from the concept of circulation — keeping materials, products and value in use for as long as possible. Under the new brand, Circulus will continue to support organisations to protect budgets, reduce waste, improve operational resilience and cut carbon by extending the life of electronic assets, while ensuring secure and compliant disposal when equipment genuinely reaches end of life.

The launch event also marked a moment of reflection for the business, following its 10‑year anniversary in 2023. As circular economy thinking moves from niche to necessity, Circulus is positioning itself to support organisations facing growing pressure around cost, compliance, supply‑chain resilience and sustainability reporting.

“Twelve years ago, these conversations were ahead of their time,” added Docherty. “Today, they’re happening in boardrooms, supply chains and policy. Circulus is about meeting that moment — and helping organisations move from intention to practical, achievable action.”

As a Supported Business and Living Wage and living Hours accredited employer, Circulus also continues to champion inclusive employment, local job creation and community impact, alongside partnerships with academic institutions and innovation programmes focused on resource recovery and reuse.

The Circulus brand will now roll out across all services, communications and customer touchpoints, with no change to ownership, leadership or core values.
