Sugo brings their fresh pasta to Glasgow’s West End

A staple on the Glasgow food scene since 2019, Sugo Pasta has opened the doors to their second restaurant, much to the delight of their pasta-loving fanbase.

The new restaurant, which hosts 160 covers, will serve Sugo’s classic menu; 10 pasta dishes, inspired by regions across Italy, made fresh each day with the finest produce. It’s this simplicity, elevated by their dedication to quality and authenticity, that quickly catapulted Sugo to cult status many years ago. From then, the team have remained committed to an unwavering standard which has allowed them to transcend from cult brand to cultural zeitgeist.

Located at 8 Cresswell Lane - the old Zizzi’s site just a short walk from the famous Ashton Lane – Sugo’s aesthetic and offering fit seamlessly into the West End landscape. A restaurant that boasts a buzzy ambiance, keeps the hustle and bustle hassle-free and smoothly transitions from day to night. Walk-ins only means the always attentive floor staff keep service as efficient as anywhere; but ultimately, it’s always worth the wait.

With the new opening, however, brings something extra special. Renowned for their regular schedule of pasta specials, Sugo will be introducing specials exclusive to each restaurant. For the team, that means more opportunity to showcase their skill and palette, and for pasta lovers it means more pasta to try.

The opening has been in the plans for a long time now, with fans and locals alike wondering when the day would finally come. With progress kicking into action over the past few months, it wasn’t until very recently that the pasta purveyor announced on social media the opening date as Thursday 5 March to an overwhelmingly positive response.

“This opening represents an important milestone in Sugo’s journey. “says Tony Conetta, Director at DRG.

“What started as a single restaurant with a very clear vision, to serve exceptional fresh pasta, has grown into something much bigger, thanks to the support of Glasgow.

The West End is vibrant and proudly independent, so it was important that this restaurant felt authentic to both the area and our brand.  We’re proud to be continuing to invest in the city’s hospitality scene and excited for what this next chapter brings.”

Following a private celebration with friends and family, and an exclusive invite-only event, Sugo are extending the celebrations to all, offering the first 20 diners on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 March a complimentary plate of pasta. Doors open at 11am if you’re interested in being one of the lucky fans.

The new location is a stylish blend of sophistication and rawness. Key elements of the interior have carried over with new features introduced to elevate the impressive venue. As core branding pieces, the theatrical open kitchen and iconic red neon sign are instantly recognisable. However, Cresswell Lane has its own aesthetic with exposed steel trusses and glazed skylights showcasing a double-height pitched ceiling. The defined mix of materials maintains the industrial and rustic feel whilst introducing a brighter reflectivity and contrast through glass cut tiles.

Naturally, a real centrepiece of the venue is the open kitchen. Not purely for its entertainment value, but this time, for its dramatic impact as Arabescato Viola marble is used prominently at the counters, acting as a refined counterbalance to the industrial shell.

Sugo Pasta, 8 Cresswell Lane, Glasgow, is open daily from 11am. Walk-ins only.
