72 businesses honoured at this year’s Incorporation of Gardeners ‘Let Glasgow Flourish’ Awards

Glasgow businesses who go the extra mile to make the city look good with their dramatic flower displays, were celebrated at this year’s ‘Let Glasgow Flourish’ Awards at Trades House.  This year’s awards were presented by former Beechgrove Garden host, Lesley Watson, who has previously judged gardens at Hampton Court Palace and Chelsea and Scottish garden design competitions. She said: “I’m very honoured to be here today. All the winners should be very proud. You’ve cheered the city up with your colourful display of flowers and you are doing the wildlife good too.”

Ardnamurchan Restaurant and Bar in Glasgow’s Hope Street is one of the city’s most celebrated Scottish restaurants.  Jean-Marc Ducasse, General Manager, was presented with award. Commenting on the win, Jean-Marc said: “We're very proud to have won The Robertson Silver Spade Award.   We won the silver and gold in previous years so we’re over the moon to lift the big prize this year. The spade will have pride of place in our restaurant.”

72 businesses in total received awards and there were 16 Gold award winners from the hospitality industry including Grumpy Barista, Mharsanta, La Vita, Nico’s and Manuka nightclub.

This year’s silver awards went to 43 businesses – hospitality were the big winners again with DRG Group sweeping the board along with a number of hospitality businesses; places of worship were also commended for enhancing their outdoor areas - King’s Park Church; Sandyford Henderson Memorial Church; Struthers Memorial Church and Baitul Rahman Mosque picked up silver and bronze awards.

Professor Beverly Bergman OBE, Collector of the House, said: "Congratulations to all of our winners. Thank you for making this beautiful city more beautiful than ever with your floral displays. Special congratulations to Ardnamurchan Restaurant and Bar on winning The Robertson Silver Spade and to all of the businesses who received bronze, silver and gold awards. We’re thrilled that so many of you play your part in enhancing your outdoor areas and entrances with beautiful planting and floral displays for us all to enjoy.”

Members of the Master Court roamed the streets of Glasgow during the first two weeks in August 2025, while the flowers were in full bloom, and awarded points for each display they found, culminating in a list of finalists.  The overall prize is The Robertson Silver Spade, which the winner keeps for one year. Bronze and silver winners received certificates and gold winners received certificates and trophies.

The awards ceremony was attended by representatives from the Incorporation of Gardeners, the wider Trades House crafts, associated organisations and the 72 local businesses and organisations who won awards.

The awards were launched in 1983 by The Incorporation of Gardeners of Glasgow, and The Robertson Silver Spade was first awarded in 1992.  Prizes are given at three different levels and presented to commercial or institutional organisations within the city which create and maintain an arboreal or floral display of a high standard for the benefit of the public.  The awards are available for projects from simple hanging baskets and window box displays to larger impressive and ambitious plantings.  This year’s judging was across the city and took in city centre, east end, west end, south side and Merchant City areas.

The Incorporation of Gardeners of Glasgow was founded around 1605 as a trade guild to protect the gardening and horticulture trade in the city. It now operates solely as a charity, giving significant grants each year to not-for-profit gardening projects in the city, recently including support for projects at The Beatson and The Children's Wood in the North Kelvinside area. The Incorporation also provides study bursaries to gardening and horticultural students.
