This Valentine’s Day (14th February), guests at Buchanan Galleries will have the chance to create origami hearts while learning more about how the heart works - and how to protect it – in partnership with British Heart Foundation (BHF).
The free event, taking place between 10am and 3pm, located by the Buchanan Galleries flower wall, outside John Lewis & Partners, will be hosted by British Heart Foundation funded researchers. The hands-on experience invites members of the public to create and take home personalised, colourful origami hearts, while learning fascinating facts about the human heart.
Visitors will also learn about cardiovascular research currently taking place in Scotland, how heart disease develops, and the small lifestyle changes that can help keep hearts healthy and strong.
Researchers will also be sharing real-life insight into their work, including the types of experiments carried out in heart research labs, with a slideshow of images from ongoing studies shown on site to spark discussion and curiosity.
The free event at Buchanan Galleries aims to raise awareness of the vital role research plays in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease - the world’s leading cause of death.
David McColgan, Head of BHF Scotland, said: “This Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for the people who truly wear their hearts on their sleeves – our researchers – to step out of the lab and into Buchanan Galleries to share their incredible work.
“By sparking conversations, answering questions, and bringing science to life, they’re giving the public the chance to hear first-hand about the incredible work the BHF is funding here in Scotland to transform the future of heart health.”
Kathy Murdoch, Centre Director at Buchanan Galleries, said, “Valentine’s Day is all about showing love, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by supporting an event that highlights the importance of heart health, whilst inviting people to create their own personalised origami hearts to take home to their friends and families.
“We’re thrilled to be working with the British Heart Foundation who will provide vital education and information about heart health to guests at Buchanan Galleries, while helping raise awareness of the life-saving research they fund."
