Five years on from COP26, Clyde Gateway's Transition to Net Zero programme reaches 60 businesses

Businesses across Glasgow and South Lanarkshire came together at Topgolf Glasgow last week for the latest Clyde Gateway Transition to Net Zero networking event, as the programme celebrated supporting over 60 businesses since its launch in early 2024.

The event marked another milestone for the initiative, which has grown into a thriving business support programme over the past two years. Recent events have been fully booked and attracting waiting lists with demand continuing to grow from businesses looking for practical advice, expert guidance and opportunities to collaborate on their journey to net zero.

Nearly five years after Glasgow hosted COP26, Clyde Gateway's programme is demonstrating how local partnerships can help businesses move beyond climate ambition and into practical action. Working alongside Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow City Council, South Lanarkshire Council, Skills Development Scotland and the University of Strathclyde, the initiative brings together the organisations, expertise and networks that businesses need to navigate an increasingly complex sustainability landscape.

The latest event featured presentations from Scottish Enterprise on sustainability support, South Lanarkshire Council on business support services and a case study from BEMCO, demonstrating how businesses can embed sustainability into everyday operations while strengthening long-term resilience. Dedicated networking sessions also gave delegates the opportunity to connect directly with expert organisations and fellow businesses, sharing experiences and exploring opportunities for future collaboration.

Fiona McLean, Business and Community Growth Project Manager at Clyde Gateway, said: "Five years on from COP26, businesses are no longer asking why net zero matters, they're asking how to make it happen in a way that works for their organisation.

"That's exactly what this programme is about. By bringing businesses together with expert organisations, local case studies and peer networks, we're helping businesses turn ambition into action. It's also creating a stronger, more connected business community that's better equipped to respond to future opportunities and challenges."

John McGregor, Works Manager at BEMCO, said: "Having attended most of the networking events since they began, I have found them very valuable. They provide a great opportunity for businesses to share experiences, learn from others and better understand the transition to net zero. The chance to meet people from different sectors has been especially useful for sharing ideas and building connections."

Kenny Barr, Director of Sustainable Packaging Scotland, added: "The networking events have been incredibly valuable for businesses across the area looking to progress their net zero ambitions. Attendees hear from the right experts and gain practical insights on the topics they are most interested in. The result is a well-connected business community that is better informed, engaged and equipped to take meaningful steps towards net zero."

The Transition to Net Zero programme forms part of Clyde Gateway's wider commitment to supporting sustainable and inclusive economic growth across Glasgow and South Lanarkshire. By creating opportunities for businesses to connect with experts, learn from each other and access practical support, the programme is helping to turn the aspirations of COP26 into tangible action on the ground.
