Let’s Go Glasgow BID moves into delivery with launch of Clean Team pilot

Let’s Go Glasgow Business Improvement District (BID) has announced the launch of its first pilot project, with a dedicated Clean Team now live across Glasgow city centre.

The pilot marks the BID’s transition from establishment into delivery and reflects an immediate focus on ensuring businesses begin to see visible, practical improvements following their collective investment in the BID.

The Clean Team will provide additional cleaning activity, focused on issues over and above existing Glasgow City Council services, not currently available to levy-paying businesses. The pilot will focus on priority areas across the BID, including high‑footfall streets and key gateways into the city, responding directly to issues raised by businesses including graffiti removal on private buildings, and cleaning of bins and street furniture, as well as focusing on improving the state of lanes. The team will operate as a visible presence within the city centre, helping to improve standards, presentation and confidence for businesses, employees and visitors.

The pilot will be delivered by ABM, working on behalf of the Let’s Go Glasgow BID. A dedicated online helpdesk will enable levy‑paying businesses to log issues directly, with requests triaged efficiently between BID‑funded activity and City Council responsibility to ensure the most appropriate response.

The pilot model will allow the BID to test, learn and refine how the service operates ahead of a full tender process for a permanent Clean Team later this year. The initial pilot will comprise of two operatives, 7 days a week, 5am to 2pm, with flexibility built in to adapt the approach based on what works best on the ground.

Kyron Keogh, Chair of Let’s Go Glasgow BID, said:

“This pilot is about delivering early, tangible impact. Businesses have made a clear investment commitment through the BID, and our priority is to turn that into visible improvements as quickly as possible. The Clean Team is the first of many projects we will roll out, and it demonstrates our focus on action, additionality and value for money.”

Cllr Angus Millar, Convener for City Centre Recovery at Glasgow City Council, said:

“A clean and well-maintained city centre is in the interests of businesses, residents and visitors alike, and the Council has been increasing investment in its cleansing services over the past year with for example additional nightshift teams and commercial waste enforcement officers. This welcome new initiative by the BID will complement the Council’s services in response to issues raised by the city centre business community, and is a good example of how the BID can provide additionality in achieving shared objectives of the public and private sector.”

Campbell Murdoch, Managing Director – Business & Industry at ABM, said:

“ABM has been maintaining public spaces for over a hundred years across the globe, and we are proud of our decades-long presence at some of Scotland’s most iconic sites. It is a privilege to be part of Let’s Go Glasgow BID, an opportunity to make a real difference to the long-term sustainability of one of the most vibrant communities we serve.”

The Clean Team pilot forms part of Let’s Go Glasgow BID’s wider five‑year programme to make the city centre cleaner, safer, more vibrant and more empowered for businesses, alongside initiatives focused on enhanced safety, events and activation, and strong business representation and advocacy.

Further projects will be announced in the coming weeks and months as the BID continues to build momentum and scale delivery.
