The best in the fizzness, Lush invites you to bathe like an icon this World Bath Bomb Day

Imagine a world without bath bombs — boring, right? As World Bath Bomb Day approaches on 27 April, Lush celebrates the defining moment Lush Co-Founder and Manufacturing Director, Mo Constantine OBE, was awarded the trademark and disrupted the bathing market with a brand new innovation in 1989. This year, Lush are inviting you to bathe like an icon by championing six heroic bath bombs that rescued its loyal bathing community from mundane everyday routines. Their icon status speaks for itself — with ethically sourced ingredients, the finest essential oils and over 644,000 sold each year in shops across the UK and Ireland, these six account for 12% of all bath bombs sold.

What began as Mo's humble garden shed invention for her children quickly became a global phenomenon. 20 million Lush bath bombs are sold globally every year, making up 25% of the business’s sales, thus cementing Lush as a leader of bathing trends and best in the fizzness! While the water may be clouded with vibrant hues, the Lush bathing experience certainly is transparent. The combination of fresh ingredients, a pledge to support local communities and environments in sourcing processes, the employment of non-animal testing methods, and utilising rich fragrances crafted in Lush’s own in-house perfumery is why Lush bath bombs are now loved by millions.

Every single Lush bath bomb is carefully hand pressed by real people in Lush’s manufacturing sites across the globe. Lush Manufacturing has grown a long way from Mo’s garden shed. In the UK alone, over 11 million bath bombs were pressed in 2025, including 361,000 of the iconic Butterball. Lush firmly believes that this fresh, handmade process is essential to creating the highest quality bath bombs and helping customers bathe like icons all year around.

Lush’s six cult classics:

Sex Bomb  | £5 / €6

Where in the UK&I it is most iconic:

Irish bathers savour a sensual soak in calming jasmine, ylang ylang and clary sage oils the most, as 6,200 Sex Bombs are sold across Ireland every year.

Why it’s iconic:

Lush’s clary sage is steam distilled in Hungary, where post-distillation materials are reused for compost and create energy for their steam generation. Also, the uplifting ylang ylang is grown by local farmers in Comoros Islands off the East Coast of Africa in nutrient-rich volcanic soil. After, it is processed by a local distillery that employs 17 permanent staff members.

Intergalactic | £6.50 / €6

Where in the UK&I it is most iconic:

Northerners find this refreshing infusion of peppermint, grapefruit and cedarwood oils out of this world, with over 19,000 sold each year.

Why it’s iconic:

This fizzy favourite is infused with Cedarwood oil distilled from cut-offs and leftover sawdust from the Eastern Red Cedar, a tree found in the heart of Virginia — the only place this impressive tree grows naturally. It is also harvested by hand to preserve and protect traditional land-use practices.

Avobath | £4 / €5.50

Where in the UK&I it is most iconic:

This moisturising, mood-booster blended with lemongrass and bergamot has won the hearts of the Welsh - so much so that over 4,000 are sold to the nation each year.

Why it’s iconic:

While bought indirectly, the Lush purchase of zesty lemongrass helps support traditional tribal communities in Odisha's Koraput district, where families have sustainably grown Lush lemongrass for generations.

Butterball | £3 / €3.50

Where in the UK&I it is most iconic:

More than 17,500 Butterballs are sold in Scotland each year, making it the most popular bath bomb in the region. Overall, Scots are serious bath bomb lovers too – with over 580,000 bath bombs sold annually in Scotland alone.

Our Scottish customers are keeping bath time decadent and soothing, with Butterball’s skin-softening cocoa butter and subtle vanilla scent proving a firm favourite. In a country known for its chilly weather, it seems bathers are in favour of gentle, comforting soaks that help hydrate and unwind. gentle yet effective classic contributes to 25% of sales across the six iconic bath bombs.

Why it’s iconic:

The Fair Trade cocoa beans used to make Lush cocoa butter come from the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Sierra Leone, where they are grown using organic methods, and agroforestry models are in place to protect local forests. The cocoa beans are then processed into butter in Europe by our fully certified organic Fair Trade suppliers.

Big Blue £4.50 / €6

Where in the UK&I it is most iconic:

In the midlands, bathers prefer a soothing dip in a deep blend of lavender and lemon essential oils, with over 6,700 sold every year across the region.

Why it’s iconic:

Produced from distinct Sicilian lemons using heat-free cold expression, Lush essential lemon oils preserve a unique aroma. We rely on a long-standing partnership with a family producer whose expertise ensures consistent quality, supported by a local farmer network.

Twilight | £5.50 / €6.50

Where in the UK&I it is most iconic:

Although 81,600 Twilight bath bombs are sold annually across the UK and Ireland, the Irish cherish bathing under a blanket of lavender and tonka the most.

Why it’s iconic:

The classic fragrance of Lavender is sourced mainly from Provence. Lavender oil is used for its balancing and soothing qualities making it ideal for irritated skin - it is also great at calming the mind and aiding a restful sleep.
