Glasgow City Council have provided the following update on the progress of the George Square redevelopment:
"Since our last communication, works have continued to advance along West George Street. The north footway between Buchanan Street and Dundas Street is now complete. Current activity is focused in front of Queen Street Station, where contractors are excavating the existing footway in preparation for laying a new natural stone surface. As part of these works, the bus stop, at Queen Street Station, has been temporarily closed. Passengers are advised to use the nearby stop located close to Waxy O’Connor’s pub. This phase is expected to be completed by 16th November.
At the City Chambers, the first phase of works is scheduled for completion by 5th October. This phase is being delivered in two sections: the first from Cochrane Street to the front entrance, followed by the stretch from the entrance to George Street. Once the initial phase is complete, the site area will shift, closing the street from the north end while maintaining pedestrian access to the Chambers via Cochrane Street.
Within George Square itself, ground testing continues for the proposed statue locations. A conservation specialist is currently on site to clean the bronze elements of the statue plinths. Scaffolding has also been erected around the equestrian statues to allow restoration works to be carried out in situ. Site clearance activities are ongoing."
