Tron Theatre pantomime returns for the festive season with Gallus In Weegieland

Written by Johnny McKnight

Tron Theatre Company is thrilled to present the pantabulous Gallus in Weegieland this 2025 festive season. Written by panto icon and award-winning dame Johnny McKnight, this year’s panto is a refresh of one of his popular early works for Tron Theatre Company from 2017.

Directed by Sally Reid, Gallus in Weegieland, is a wild adventure down a mysterious pothole for the unsuspecting Alice, and poor Alice is having a bad day. She can’t face her ballet exam and instead decides to follow a mysterious man talking an incomprehensible language down a strange rabbit hole – as you do. From there she finds herself in the wonderful pantoshpherical wonderland known as Weegieland, where she finds the power-hungry Queenie of Hearts and some very strange talking creatures.

The question is, will Alice ever want to leave the pantosphere? And will The Queen ever find something she loves more than another public beheading? There’s only one way to find out ...

The ruthless and radgey Queen is played by the unstoppable Louise McCarthy (Aganeza Scrooge (Tron Theatre); Stephens & McCarthy, Scot Squad, The Scott’s (BBC Scotland)) alongside an incredible cast including Jorgey Scott-Learmonth (Divas: From Stage to Screen, The Steamie (Edinburgh Fringe Festival)) as Alice, Tron panto newcomer Catriona Faint (Lost Girls at Bus Stops (A Play, A Pie & A Pint/Traverse Theatre), James V Katherine (Raw Material Arts/Capital Theatres)) as Hatty, Star Penders (Peter Panto and the Incredible Stinkerbell (Tron Theatre); Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream (Bard in the Botanics); Wild Rose (Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh)) as Knavey of Hearts, Marc McKinnon (Peter Panto and the Incredible Stinkerbell (Tron Theatre); The Last Cabaret on Earth, Medea on The Mic (A Play, A Pie & A Pint)) as Honey the Caterpillar alongside ensemble members Aidan McColl and Jessica Donnelly. It will have all the usual Tron panto trademarks of irreverence, hilarity, catchy songs and on-the-nose cultural references.

Gallus in Weegieland will feature original music by Ross Brown, a brand-new over the top glittery set and costume design by Kenny Miller and lighting design by Mike Robertson.

Gallus in Weegieland will be staged in the Tron Theatre’s main auditorium from Wednesday 19 November 2025 until Sunday 4 January 2026. There will be BSL interpreted performances on Friday 5 December at 1pm, Saturday 6 December at 7pm and Sunday 7 December at 1pm; Audio Described performances on Wednesday 3 December at 7pm and Saturday 13 December at 2pm; a Relaxed performance on Wednesday 10 December at 7pm; and a Live Captioned performance on Sunday 21 December at 1pm.
