Glasgow City Region Tech Ecosystem Report 2026

At the start of Glasgow Tech Week, Glasgow City Council has shared the latest Glasgow City Region Tech Ecosystem Report 2026, produced in partnership with Dealroom.co.

The report provides an up-to-date snapshot of the region's technology ecosystem, highlighting continued growth across startups, scaleups, investment activity, university spinouts and key technology sectors. The findings show that Glasgow's tech ecosystem is now valued at £5.6 billion, having grown 2.4x since 2020, with more than £300 million in venture capital investment secured since 2025.

Among the report's key findings:

  • Glasgow ranks among the UK's top 10 hubs in the 2026 Tech Ecosystem Index by scale, growing faster than London and Oxford.
  • More than 130 university spinouts have been produced with 112 still active and headquartered in the Region (valued collectively at £1.1B).
  • Health remains Glasgow's leading sector for investment and startup activity, while AI and deep tech (notably quantum, semiconductors, medtech and space technologies) continue to gain momentum.
  • Based on current trends, 2026 could become one of the strongest years on record for venture capital investment.

The report reflects the strength of the regional innovation economy and collective contribution of founders, investors, learning institutes, businesses, venture builders, support organisations and community builders across the ecosystem.
