Glasgow City Council have provided the following update on the progress of the George Square redevelopment:
"A decision has been made this week to extend the closure of the north carriageway of George Square by a further two weeks, until 21 June, to allow additional time for the natural stone surfacing to achieve full strength, given the anticipated high volumes of traffic and heavy vehicles.
The grouting process is weather-dependent, and it is essential that the setts are properly grouted and fully cured, particularly in light of the volume of heavy bus traffic expected. The contractor will undertake testing of the grout over the coming weeks, and should the required strength be achieved sooner, the road may reopen earlier. Transport operators will be kept informed of the situation should there be an opportunity to reopen the road ahead of the 21st June.
In addition, resurfacing works on West George Street are progressing as planned, and the road remains on programme to reopen on 27 May. This will help alleviate pressure on the local network and allow taxis to return."
