Diana Peralta: A new membership blog!

“What is this all about?” you’ll be thinking.

It’s about interaction and engagement between us, Your Chamber, and you, our members.

I’m going to give you a quick overview of the fantastic work that we at Glasgow Chamber do and the many ways in which we can support and add value to your business.

You are the reason why we exist! We work hard to make things happen and see our city flourish! Simply put, we are here to support our members and champion Glasgow. We do this by:

  • Storytelling – there’s no point in having an amazing product if no one knows about it – likewise, there is so much happening in our city and we need to make sure we are telling the world about it! Your membership gives you access to a number of communication channels that allow you to share what your company is up to and engage with other members and potential new clients. We are mad about GLASGOW and YOUR good news are OUR good news so please get sharing (here’s how).
  • Facilitating connections – we do approximately 100 events per year so there’s plenty to choose from. Our public events are available to everyone, however as a member your tickets are at an exclusive discounted price. We also have a number of invite only events that are exclusively for members.
  • Training solutions for yourself and your staff – whether you’re looking to polish your social media skills or improve your managerial skills, Your Chamber has over 80 courses per year to help you succeed, see full calendar here

The above falls within the Chamber’s member services activity which is only a fraction of what we do! To keep it simple, your Chamber does work across 4 different areas and provides leadership on issues important to business to advance sustainable economic growth and a better Glasgow for all those who live, work and play in our city and region.

Besides member services, we deliver two Projects that prosper our city, actively promote International development for our local businesses and actively lead on issues that affect our city through our Policy work, as follows:

Glasgow is a city of innovation and our Projects are a living example of this –

  • Our Circular Glasgow project is pioneering in the UK – last year we launched Hardtack, the first ever Scottish beer made from unsold bread, which showed that being circular not only has a positive impact on the environment but also on a business bottom line. We connect SMEs to explore collaboration opportunities that care for our planet and increase ROI!
  • Our award-winning Developing the Young Workforce project is all about reducing youth unemployment in the city and we, as Your Chamber, connect businesses with education to provide development opportunities for the youth of GLASGOW and show them there is #NoWrongPath

Our international activity has seen us creating connections for our members in places like Milan and New York and soon Bavaria , and producing over 5.000 export documentation this year alone! Whether you are a small business wanting to take it to the next level, or an established organisation looking to open new markets, Your Chamber is here to support you with your ambitions and talk you through the steps for success in international markets, more info here.

Our Policy team undertakes campaigning activities with the specific focus of achieving positive change for the city and wider city region and delivering value to you, our members. We participate in, or lead on, a wide range of business led groups including the Glasgow Economic Leadership Board, City Centre Retail Association, Commercial Property Forum, 2018 Prosperous and International Group and the Glasgow Employer Board, all of which include representation at the most senior level across different disciplines. More info here.

We connect local businesses with business experts, influencers and policy makers through membership; we work to make our city and surrounding area a better place to do business; we help companies trade globally; we offer local business communities a strong and resolute voice.

As you can see there is an array of opportunities available to you, our members, to help you improve your competitive advantage and see your businesses succeed. View our short Chamber video #ConnectForGrowth to see some of the work we are doing in and for the city.
