I was asked to write about my favourite event this year and it has been difficult to choose just one. The Behind the Scenes at Celtic Park, the After Hours at Boteco and the Reaction Chamber at Iberica are all up there on my list of favourites - but if choosing one event then I would have to say it’s the New Members Breakfast, and would have to highlight the one in November.
First, we couldn’t have a better venue – Clockwise is a co-working space that encourages entrepreneurship, collaboration and community and we as a Chamber share these ethos entirely.
Secondly, the mix of companies present was just right. We had everything from the start-ups such as Sparkplug and Walker Gordon Associates, the more established guys such as Premiership Experience and Rusk & Rusk, to the bigger companies of Micron Europe and Gleddoch Hotel. The synergy on the day was great and the resulting connections have been wide and varied –so that’s us shouting hooray! (or ¡urra! In Spanish!) backstage as that’s when we feel our job as a Chamber of Commerce has been done – when we help create relationships.
But I believe the special touch was given by The Good Coffee Cartel providing our coffee on the day. In line with their entrepreneurial spirits, Todd and Courtney are 2 guys who know all there needs to be known about coffee and decided jump in and start roasting speciality coffee in Glasgow for wholesale and retail. And for me as a coffee lover, having speciality coffee served at this event was just incredible. The 2 coffees provided were fantastic but I loved their Colombian so much I’d dare say is one of the best cups I’ve tried to this day. Of course I’m biased, but I’m also honest. And in a time when artisan, local production is becoming important again, the Chamber proudly supports local talent – on this instance by helping Todd & Courtney showcase their product to new potential clients and enhance the Cartel’s profile in the city.
The Chamber is all about forging connections and our events are just a fun, quirky way of being part of the business community and connecting people. Cheers to the new year, and I’m looking forward to the 2018 Events calendar!
