Clyde 1 marked a major moment in its history on Friday 28 August, as the station left its Clydebank studios for the final time and broadcast live for the very first time from its new home at 100 Queen Street.
‘Clyde 1’s BIG MOVE’, was a very special live broadcast, taking listeners on the journey from the station’s home of 43 years, Clydebank, to its new state of the art studios in the heart of Glasgow.
At 7am, Bowie@Breakfast’s hugely popular, George and Cassi, boarded a specially branded open-top City Sightseeing bus, broadcasting live as they set off for the very last time from the station’s long-time home.
Along the route, the breakfast team picked up some of Clyde 1’s best-loved presenters including Grant Thomson, Garry Spence, Steven Mill, Gordon Duncan, Callum Gallacher and Amber, bringing the full Clyde 1 family together for the journey. Plus special guests, hot off the back of their very own brand-new sold-out festival - Heather On The Hill - and friends of the station, Nathan Evans & the Saint PHNX Band!
Listeners were treated to some familiar favourites along the way, with two of Bowie@Breakfast’s biggest features — The £5k Minute and Kool Ride to School — both taking place during the special broadcast.
Waiting at Clyde 1’s new home at 100 Queen Street was Clyde 1 and Superscoreboard legend Hugh Keevins, as the station began an exciting new chapter in the heart of Glasgow. On arrival, the team was welcomed by the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Jacqueline McLaren.
In true Glasgow style, a Clyde 1 branded traffic cone was then placed on the legendary Duke of Wellington statue, by George Bowie, a playful nod to one of the city’s most iconic sights marking Clyde 1’s arrival in the city centre.
The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Jacqueline McLaren, said: ‘Few organisations know Glasgow quite like Radio Clyde. For decades, the station has entertained listeners across Glasgow and the west, supported good causes and helped tell the story of our city. It is fantastic to see them return to the city centre and take up a new home on Queen Street. I wish everyone at Radio Clyde every success as they begin this exciting new chapter in the heart of Glasgow.’
Just after 9am, Bowie@Breakfast broadcast live from 100 Queen Street for the very first time, with Clyde 1 officially beginning life in its new Glasgow home.
And the first song played from the new studios? It could only have been the GBX and Glasgow anthem — Bits ’n Pieces.
George Bowie, presenter of Bowie@Breakfast, said:
"I started my career in Clydebank, so I’ll always have great memories of the place. But being back in the city centre, in our brand-new, state-of-the-art studios, is such an exciting step. It’s fantastic to have made the move and what a view of the Duke of Wellington to inspire us every morning!"
Cassi, co-presenter of Bowie@Breakfast, added:

The move marked an exciting new era for Clyde 1, bringing the station even closer to the heart of Glasgow while continuing to deliver the music, entertainment, sport and personalities listeners know and love.
