Three new property developments are set to boost Glasgow city centre.
Listed buildings on Argyle Street will be making way for a 13 storey £140m office block renovation. Glasgow City Council granted Osborne + Co planning permission for the site to be transformed after 20 years of lying vacant. This follows Historic Environment Scotland deeming the B and C listed buildings unrepairable. Once completed the office space will allow room for up to 3,000 employees.
On Sauchiehall Street, Mosaic Architecture + Design have revealed a proposal to convert the former Dunnes store building into a “full service” 112-bedroom hotel. The Manor Property Group, if given the go ahead by Glasgow City Council, will invest £12m into this new project and anticipate 50 full time positions within the hotel to become available.
The Manor Group believes it will add to the council’s Sauchiehall Street Avenues vision and contribute to the renaissance of the famous street. If planning is approved work should commence in the middle of 2020 and be completed in the third quarter of 2021.
Meanwhile work will soon be commencing on West George Street following the acceptance of Canadian chain Sandman Hotel Group’s proposal. The international company will be creating a four-star 179 bed Sandman Signature hotel in the former 12-storey Pegasus House office building. This will be the third hotel based in the UK operated by the group with 50 others located around the world.
