Warning Order - Glasgow Armed Forces Day - Saturday 30 June 2018

Introduction 

Armed Forces Day (AFD) will be celebrated in Glasgow on Sat 30 Jun 18. It will incorporate Regular, Reserves, Veterans and Cadets. It is a an opportunity to allow public to acknowledge and thank our armed forces. The celebration will start with the AFD flag raising on Mon 25 Jun 18 followed by a parade and a civic reception on Sat 30 Jun 18. There will also be the opportunity for the Lord Provost to visit Reserve units in the Glasgow area during the week. The events will close with Council staff lowering the flag on Mon 2 Jul 18 (no ceremony). 

Aim 

The aim of this Warning Order is to raise awareness of the event, to gauge approximate numbers of cadets, serving personnel and veterans attending and to facilitate the planning for the event.

Civic Reception – ticketed event in the Banqueting Suite in the City Chambers.

In order to Celebrate RAF100, the RAF in Scotland is requested to provide a Senior Officer Representative for the Parade and Civic Reception afterwards. There will also be an opportunity for any RAF100 stands to be displayed either outside or in the banqueting hall. 

Organisations are requested to distribute this Warning Order through their contacts to any parties that may be interested in attending AFD 18 in Glasgow. This is to ensure that maximum awareness is raised.  Recipients wishing to attend are to complete the returns proforma at Annex A no later than 7 Jun 18 by email to afdglasgowprojectoffr@gmail.com.  There will also be the opportunity for organisations that support the military family to book stands (table and 2 x chairs) in the Mahogany Suite in order to raise awareness.  Also, there will be the opportunity for recruiting stands or other ‘pop up’ stands on George Square on Sat 30 Jun. 

Tickets for the Civic reception are limited to Cadets, Serving Personnel, Veterans and their carers only due to space limitations within the City Chambers. Confirmation of ticket allocation will be sent out with the main instruction.
