Intellectual property and IT specialist David Woods has been promoted to partner at international legal firm Pinsent Masons.
The Glasgow-based lawyer is one of 23 individuals who will assume partnership with effect from 1 May.
Dual qualified to practice in Scotland and in England and Wales, David specialises in disputes concerning trade mark infringement, copyright infringement and passing off, and in advising on brand and domain name issues. He has acted for a broad range of retail, technology, energy and financial services organisations and has significant experience of large scale litigation and of advising on alternative forms of dispute resolution.
Pinsent Masons has maintained a steady pace of international expansion in the last year, launching offices in Madrid, Johannesburg and Perth, and almost one third of the lawyers being promoted are based outside the UK.
One in four of those promoted are female and of the individuals promoted, almost 90% specialise in the firm's five global sectors of energy, financial services, infrastructure, real estate and advanced manufacturing and technology.
Pinsent Masons Chairman of Scotland and Northern Ireland, Richard Masters, said: “I am delighted to welcome David to the partnership and his promotion is a reflection of his ongoing contribution to maintaining the firm’s reputation for high level dispute resolution and arbitration services. His years of experience in Scottish and English courts and his litigation skills are widely respected by our clients working across the technology, media and telecommunications sectors.”
Richard Foley, Senior Partner at Pinsent Masons said: "This is our largest promotions round in three years and demonstrates that we are a growing and increasingly global business.
“A key ingredient of our success has been a focus on investing in our people. We have worked hard to create both a level playing field, and an environment in which our people can develop the deep sector-specialism and innovative mindset that characterises a Pinsent Masons partner. All of those being promoted reflect those attributes, along with a deep commitment to the firm's values, and I offer them my sincere congratulations."
