Today marks a defining moment for Scotland’s future. Together we’re calling on every Scottish MP to vote for Heathrow expansion.
This vote matters to Scotland because a new runway is not just a piece of tarmac – it is a way of connecting people to travel and trade across the UK and rest of the world. Although our immediate priority should always be to grow our own route network, where a direct flight from Scotland isn’t immediately available, it is critical that we have direct and frequent access to Heathrow to fill these gaps.
As the UK’s only hub airport, a new runway at Heathrow will mean enormous opportunities for growth, for people and businesses in every corner of Scotland.
For our exporters, Heathrow expansion will mean the doubling of cargo capacity and dozens of new domestic and international trading routes, at what is already the UK’s largest port by value. This means more of Scotland’s businesses, from salmon farmers to whisky distillers, can reach out and trade with the world.
For our tourist market, it will bring new tourists from right across the world to cities and towns all over the nation. Through more frequent and affordable domestic flights, to more Scottish destinations, travellers from across the globe can connect to our nation via the UK’s hub.
For our construction businesses and heavy industry, expansion will mean a new logistics hub, enabling businesses across the nation to become part of Europe’s largest private infrastructure project.
For our people, the runway will deliver thousands of new and skilled job opportunities.
For our entire nation, the benefits of this vital piece of infrastructure are undeniable.
That’s why, on days like today, any vested political interests deserve no place. Because this is a decision for our economy, its people, and its future.
We urge every MP to make the right choice for Scotland – vote for Heathrow.
