Computer Networking student takes up placement with telecommunications specialist for a week of hands-on industry experience.
Aiden Cheung is one of three City of Glasgow College students to win a prized placement at Exchange Communications which sponsors the college’s Computer Networking programme at SCQF level 7 and 8.
The partnership between City of Glasgow College and Exchange Communications provides unique industry insights for students through on-site work experience, guest speaker slots, and the donation of equipment.
Reflecting on his work experience, Aiden said:
“My placement offered me real insight into the telecoms industry and a greater understanding of the role and skills of an Avaya-accredited engineer. I was able to gain valuable real-life experience, visiting customers on-site and responding to live situations.”
Speaking about the partnership, Exchange Communications’ Managing Director,
Tom Sime said: “We were very impressed with Aiden’s attitude to and aptitude for the work he was undertaking with us, and we hope he’ll take valuable practical learnings back to assist him in completing his studies.
“Our partnership with the City of Glasgow College has the potential to attract talented young students like Aiden towards a career in telecommunications and we’re looking forward to developing our relationship with the college further in the weeks and months ahead.”
Samir Zarrug, Head of Curriculum for Applied Computing Technology at the college, said:
“We are delighted with our partnership and the valuable work experience it offers our students. Aiden was thrilled with the level of support and guidance he received from the experts in the field at Exchange Communications and he appreciated the link between the skills developed at the College and the practical application of these skills in the workplace.”
Aiden’s fellow student, Julia Banas, will take up a placement within the business later in the year.
