UKSE gives £46k in funding to community groups in 2017

UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE) has provided more than £46,000 in funding to 15 community groups across the West of Scotland in 2017.

UKSE, the Tata Steel subsidiary set up to assist growing companies in traditional steel-producing areas, supported a variety of organisations throughout Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Ayrshire. The financial backing helped the groups to provide services to hundreds of individuals in their local communities.

Among the successful groups was Glasgow-based Vox Liminis (Vox). The charity, which runs initiatives across Scotland designed to rehabilitate those within the criminal justice system including a project that allows ex-offenders to create music, received a grant of £2,500 from UKSE in early 2017.

More than 130 young people from across Ayrshire gained entrepreneurial experience thanks to UKSE’s funding. Young Enterprise Scotland (YES), which equips young people across the country with the skills needed to create their own business, secure employment or enter further education, was similarly granted £2,500 from UKSE.

Most recently, UKSE provided a grant of £700 to Lanarkshire-based drama group, The Wireless Hub Theatre Group, which was set up to provide a creative outlet for people with disabilities, to take to the stage with their Christmas performance, entitled “Twisted Tales”.

Anne Clyde, regional manager at UKSE said: “Vox Liminis, Young Enterprise Scotland and The Wireless Hub Theatre Group are only a few of the fantastic organisations we supported in 2017. We are thrilled that our funding has helped each group to make a difference in local communities.

“We are very proud of the work UKSE has carried out in 2017 and we’d encourage local groups and organisations based in the West of Scotland that are looking for financial support in 2018 to get in touch with us.”
