G & T but not as you know it. Award winning Glasgow Distillery Company enters into an exciting partnership with Tennent’s Visitor Centre to offer a collaborative dual tour, combining the magic of MAKAR gin distillation and the brewing of Tennent’s Lager.
In a city first, the two drink giants have created a unique new tourism product for anyone wishing to spend the day going behind the scenes at Glasgow’s first gin and single malt distillery and Scotland’s best loved brewery.
Commencing this Saturday (7th October) the tours will begin at the Tennent’s Visitor Centre at Wellpark Brewery - home to over 450 years of brewing tradition and expertise, guests will be in awe as they discover what makes Tennent’s so special in a guided tour of the rich heritage of the lager that is loved by generations. After tasting some of Tennent’s best loved products, including a few exclusive brews, guests will be able to soak up botanical-filled distilling secrets at The Glasgow Distillery Company which crafts the award-winning MAKAR gin portfolio and new make spirit soon-to-become single malt whisky.
Head distiller Lauchlan Mcintyre, will take guests on an interactive tour of the energetic Glasgow distillery; from carefully selecting botanicals to place in their copper still – Annie, to craft their MAKAR gin, down to whisky production from the mashing and maturation to barrel filling and storage. What makes this tour so special is the small batch production of a working distillery which allows guests to be part of the distillation process first hand. Following an interactive tasting tour, guests will be welcomed into the tasting room to enjoy the MAKAR gin portfolio by their brand ambassadors who will share distillery anecdotes and the heritage and history around the distillery.
The dual tour also features exclusive discounts on merchandise and preview tastings of upcoming distillery products. Three dates have been announced so far: Saturday, 7th October, Saturday, 4th November and Saturday, 2nd December with more to be announced in 2018.
Speaking about the announcement of the dual collaborative tours, Liam Hughes, CEO of The Glasgow Distillery Company, the distillers behind MAKAR:
“Tennent’s Visitor Centre is a top Glasgow attraction and we’re excited to partner with a leading operator to showcase both our distillery and their brewery in an exciting new exclusive tour. There’s no better way to learn about the production of your favourite gin than being right in the thick of it; the sight of our traditional copper still, the smell of botanicals, it’s incredible. With the introduction of our new tours in partnership with Tennent’s Visitor Centre, you can experience first-hand the magic of MAKAR gin and Scotland’s favourite pint – there’s no better day out than that!”
Ross Pollock, Tennent’s Training Academy & Visitor Centre manager said: “Glasgow is firmly on the map as a destination for food and drink tourism and rightly so, the city has been producing fantastic brands for hundreds of years. We’re delighted to offer this unique experience to those visiting our city. MAKAR is an incredible gin with a great story to tell.
“We’ve got more than a few tales to tell ourselves, of course, so the combined tour and tasting will make for an interesting, delicious, experience. We’ve had great feedback from the preview tours we’ve held so far and can’t wait to welcome the first punters on 7 October.”
