Scotland’s newest TV channel has now launched, combining STV’s Glasgow and Edinburgh stations, with new licences for Aberdeen, Ayr and Dundee.
STV2, the new commercial TV channel which launched on 24 April, will feature a flagship news programme, presented by Halla Mohieddeen, weeknights at 7pm. Scottish content will be at the core of soap, drama and film, in addition to a mix of UK and a wider international presence. Existing shows such as Live at Five will expand its reach, while international dramas will be added to programming and brand new content will be launched.
The channel, which will broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is on Freeview channel 8, Sky channel 117 and Virgin channel 159, as well as streamed on STV player, and is expected to reach 85% of viewers in STV’s transmission area.
Glasgow Caledonian University is among further education institutions across Scotland set to deliver the new channel in partnership with STV.
Chief Executive of STV, Rob Woodward, announced his departure from the Glasgow firm the day following the launch, in pursuit of “fresh challenges”.
Woodward said: “I am passionate about STV and its prospects to continue to deliver sustainable profitable growth for our shareholders. The company has an outstanding management team and committed and energised staff that will continue to build on the unique strategic strengths of the business.”
