‘No time to waste’ sustainability programme
In early 2021, AG Barr announced its ‘No time to waste’ programme, an ambitious environmental strategy with a commitment to become carbon net-zero by 2040.
The programme, using the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a blueprint, brings together multiple energy, packaging, sourcing and waste initiatives under one collective banner and reinforces the organisation’s aim to improve its sustainability efforts and ultimately reduce its environmental impact.
The programme sets out some ambitious targets including to use 100% recycled plastic across all of its brands by the end of 2023.
So far, in its efforts to reduce environmental impact, AG Barr has introduced 100% fossil-free electricity, achieved a 41% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2015, diverted 100% of its non-hazardous waste from landfill and is working closely with partners to ensure all of its raw materials are sustainably sourced.
AG Barr is also a founding member of Circularity Scotland, a not-for-profit organisation set up to operate Scotland’s Deposit Return Scheme which aims to create a circular economy for drinks containers.
