We would like to invite you to attend an Enterprise Inquiry in Glasgow on 21st June supported by
Santander. This breakfast event is one of 14 Inquiries, led by Business in the Community (BiTC) and supported by Scottish Business in the Community (SBC), taking place across the United Kingdom in 2011/12.
The purpose of this Inquiry is to bring together around 40 large and small local businesses, with theaim of:
Understanding from small businesses' perspective what some of the barriers to their engagement with larger organisations are
Showcasing some best practice case studies of instances where large businesses have effectively supported small businesses
Exploring together the most effective ways in which local businesses might support smaller organisations, with a particular view to the issues facing the local economy
In recognition of the importance of Small or Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) to local communities, Santander is involved in a series of partnerships and initiatives with BiTC and SBC, aimed at encouraging a sustainable approach to business, nurturing talent and supporting community enterprise.
Why is this important?
We all know that in areas of disadvantage, it is tangible economic growth that will create jobs and opportunities for local people. Small businesses are crucial to providing this, and accordingly BITC and SBC are committed to working with the biggest players in the private sector to enable small business growth in these areas. Out of the 4.5 million businesses in the UK, 99.9% of them are SMEs. In Scotland this is over 305,000 SMEs.
The Enterprise Inquiries provide a really valuable insight into how large businesses can support small businesses. Large businesses attending should leave with a real appetite to do more on this agenda. Small businesses attending will gain value from the networking opportunities provided.
