TIME is running out for school leavers in Glasgow to sign up for a place on GHA's Modern Apprenticeship Programme.

GHA is looking to give another 30 young people their first start on the career ladder.

The youngsters will be recruited through GHA's Modern Apprenticeship Programme which is part of Glasgow City Council's Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative.

The deadline for applications is 22 June.

To apply for an apprenticeship, applicants need to register online at the Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative site: http://glasgow.mappit.org.uk

This year there are two different styles of programme available, both giving youngsters on-the-job experience and a qualification.

For school leavers who like working outdoors, there's a two-year course which will see the apprentices join GHA's Neighbourhood Environmental Teams to help keep communities clean and tidy. It will lead to a SVQ Level 2 qualification in Facilities Services.

The second option is for office-based roles which will see apprentices work in one of GHA's local offices, area teams or head office for two years. This will lead to a SVQ Level 2 and 3 qualification in Business Administration.

GHA's 2009 programme saw 21 out of 30 apprentices securing jobs at GHA. Another 30 youngsters are currently working in GHA offices across the city after signing up for the 2011 scheme.

Modern Apprentice Robyn Lang said: "I would definitely urge anyone to sign up. I never thought I would want to work in housing before, but you are making such a difference to people's lives. Joining the programme has been one of the best things I've ever done."

If you attended a Glasgow school, are aged 16-19, and left either at Christmas last year or will leave in summer 2012 you are eligible.
