Cumbernauld-based Souters Sports Ltd, one of the UK's leading installers of natural grass sports surfaces, has moved its banking to HSBC as the firm looks to further consolidate its position and deliver future growth.

The company started trading in 2000 and went on to establish itself as a reputable specialist sports turf contractor - the largest specialist company of its type in Scotland.  Clients include Celtic FC, Rangers FC, Gleneagles Golf Course and the Scottish Rugby Union, as well as some high profile football clubs across England and an extensive number of local authorities throughout the UK.

With over 80 staff spanning its two depots in Cumbernauld and Knutsford, Cheshire, the company, headed up by managing director Stewart Aird, delivered revenues in excess of £7m in the last year.

Following a period of significant growth which has seen the company heavily invest in plant, and diversify its business into areas including irrigation and synthetic ground maintenance, HSBC is providing a series of banking products to support Souters as it continues to seize opportunities within the niche sports ground sector.

Stewart Aird, managing director of Souters Sports Ltd, said: "We place a huge importance on having a strong relationship with our banking partner and took the decision to move to HSBC as they demonstrated a solid understanding of our business.  This understanding has resulted in them offering the flexibility we require to continue to trade effectively in what is currently a challenging market.

"Changing banks isn't something any business does lightly, but we were impressed with HSBC's efficiency and we're already seen added value through switching. We're hoping the relationship will continue to move forward as we focus on growing our business in the UK."

David Scott, area commercial director for HSBC's Glasgow Commercial Banking division said: "Souters Sports is an established, successful company which is regarded as one of the main players in sports ground construction in the UK.  Their continual investment in the business and high levels of service has meant they've built an impressive client list, from national sports grounds through to local authority sports pitches.

"We're delighted to have attracted a business of this calibre to HSBC, and having taken the time to understand the business, we believe we've put together the right banking products to provide the business with the tools and flexibility to develop as they continue to deliver a first class service to their diverse client base."
