New facilities for GHA sheltered housing tenants

Two more GHA sheltered housing complexes are to benefit from purpose-built community rooms later this year.

The new facilities, at Sannox Gardens in Dennistoun, and at Sandford Gardens in Baillieston, will mean older tenants have extra space for a wider range of social activities.

The new community rooms will be built as part of extensive investment work GHA is carrying out at both sheltered housing complexes.

Work on installing overcladding and a new roof and new lift at Sannox Gardens is expected to start in March and the new extension will be built after that.

Investment work at Sandford Gardens, which included installing overcladding and repairing the roof, has just finished and work on the new conservatory is due to start in March.

GHA's East Area Committee - one of four Area Committees made of tenants and other community representatives - agreed to spend around £330,000 on the new community rooms.

Similar extensions have been built at Joppa Street, Smithycroft and Marfield sheltered housing complexes in the east end, while work is well underway on another community room at Brockburn Road Very Sheltered Housing Complex in Pollok.

Robert McCormick, Chair of GHA's East Area Committee, said: "These community rooms have proved very popular when they have been built elsewhere.

"Our sheltered housing tenants are very active, and these new communal areas help them enjoy a wider range of activities and socialise together more.

"I'm sure they will make a big difference to tenants at both complexes."
