(L-R) Tom Fothergill, Lindsay Garrett, Alistair Ferrier, Alex Burnett and Niall Rankin all from GL Hearn celebrate the property firm’s 50 years in Scotland.
Property consultancy GL Hearn is celebrating half a century in Scotland. The firm's history began in 1923 when the founder, George Leonard Hearn, decided to set up in private practice as a Rating Surveyor specialising in advising rating authorities and carrying out the complete valuation of all the properties within their boundaries.
By the late 1950s the firm was dealing with a large number of properties in Scotland and a Scottish office was opened at 86 St Vincent Street, Glasgow in 1961. Today, GL Hearn's 21st century multi-disciplinary team offers the private and public sector a range of property services from pre-planning advice, agency, development, food store, lease advisory to business rates and investment.
While newer services offered by GL Hearn such as planning, asset management and building consultancy were introduced in the latter part of the 20th century and continue to this day, other more traditional services such as business rates remain as popular as ever with clients.
Commenting on GL Hearn's 50 years in Scotland, Libby Edwards from Clarks the shoe retailer said: "The 1960s saw a rapid expansion of our factories and retail outlets. It was around that time that we reached out to GL Hearn for business rate services in Scotland - a partnership that has been much valued over the years and enabled us to manage our assets and continue to grow."
