Anderson Strathern has boosted its Law Society of Scotland accredited specialist numbers to 27, thus maintaining its position as having the highest number of accredited specialists in any Scottish law firm.

The firm's specialists field their expertise across twelve different legal areas; agricultural law, charity law, commercial leasing, construction law, employment law, family law, intellectual property rights, medical negligence, personal injury law, planning law, trusts law and private client tax law.

Barry Nichol, a senior associate in the firm's employment and pensions unit, recently gained the employment law accreditation having worked exclusively in this field for 10 years.  Barry specialises in all areas of contentious and non contentious employment law, in particular for Universities.

In December, Keith Bishop, a partner in the firm's dispute resolution team, gained the Professional Negligence accreditation, taking his specialist accreditations to two as he also holds an accreditation in Construction Law.

The Law Society of Scotland's specialist accreditation scheme was established in 1990 to recognise the exceptional quality and skill of expert lawyers.  Something in the region of just 450 solicitors are recognised as accredited specialists having demonstrated competence and been granted this status following thorough analysis of no less than 5 year's experience in a particular field of law.  The assessment panel is made up of solicitor members experienced in the appropriate area of the law who are drawn from a range of government, public sector and other relevant organisations.

As well as offering recognition of solicitors who develop specialist knowledge during their careers, accreditation also helps clients to find a solicitor with the necessary expertise, particularly in more complex cases.

Robert Carr, Chairman of Anderson Strathern, commented: "I am very proud of our position as having the highest number of legal accredited speacilists in Scotland. Both Keith and Barry's recent accreditations are testament to the commitment they have made in their specialist areas."
