Glasgow has seen a 200% spike in hotel bookings in the past four years, reaffirming its position as second only to London as the top shopping destination in the UK.

According to discount hotel specialist LateRooms.com, Glasgow received more hotel bookings than Barcelona and Rome in recent months. The city also beats the likes of Paris and Geneva in the price stake, offering cheaper average rooms rates.

The figures are another example of good news for the city's burgeoning hospitality, retail and entertainments sectors, attracting visitors from all over the world.

Glasgow has become a global destination for both business travellers and those in pursuit of some of the best shopping on offer outside of the UK's capital. We also have some of the country's best hotels, from the five star luxury of the Blythswood Square Hotel to inviting boutiques accommodation such as the Brunswick Hotel.

As we edge closer to the Commonwealth Games in 2014, the completion of the Hydro Arena and regular festivals such as Celtic Connections and the Magners Comedy Festival, we're sure these figures will continue to grow as people of the world flock to our dear green place.
