Olympic Torch comes to Glasgow

The city is counting down to the Olympics as a set of giant rings has been unveiled in George Square.

The sculptures are being installed across the UK, and at 16ft high and 33ft long, the rings revealed in Glasgow are the biggest.

A £275,000 grant was given so the city could set about orchestrating for the Games, forming the backdrops for a series of Olympic celebrations in Glasgow this summer.

Preparations are well in tow for Glasgow's role in the Games, as we get ready to host eight of the Olympic football tournament matches. Almost 6km of bunting and 700 specially made banners and flags are now decorating the city, giving an Olympic feel to the centre.

On Friday, 8 June  after a journey across the world, the Olympic torch will eventually make its way to Glasgow as part of a 10 week Olympic Torch Relay through Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It will arrive in the city at 15.42 following the route below.
