Community groups and organisations in Glasgow will from today have the opportunity to access support funding from a new community project fund 'ARISE Glasgow'. The Alliance to Reward Initiatives and Social Enterprise has been initiated by the businesses of the Buchanan Quarter Glasgow (Land Securities plc, Henderson Global Investors and Balfour Beatty ltd) as part of their commitment to support the communities in which they operate and will provide financial support to activities and groups in the local community.
ARISE Glasgow funds can be used to wholly or part-fund a range of community-based initiatives and activities related to education, employment, environment or sport. The fund offers up to a maximum of £1,000 per application and projects will be chosen by an independent selection committee comprising of local business, academic and political leaders.
ARISE Glasgow is now seeking applications from local community groups, organisations and individuals based in Glasgow. Further information and application forms are available at www.buchananquarter.co.uk
Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce who will chair the selection committee said: "I am delighted to chair the ARISE Glasgow selection committee whose funding support could make all the difference to valuable projects in the local community."
Sean Curtis of Land Securities who chairs the ARISE Glasgow board, said: "As a responsible stakeholder in Glasgow, we are keen to play our part in supporting and engaging with our local community. ARISE Glasgow provides an opportunity for local organisations, community groups, schools and other good causes to access funding for projects that have a positive impact."
Members of the selection committee include: Tim Blott, Managing Director, Herald and Times; Bailie Liz Cameron, Executive Member for jobs and the economy, Glasgow City Council; Professor Jim McDonald, Principal, University of Strathclyde; Sandra White, SNP MSP, Glasgow Kelvin.
ARISE is a charitable alliance which provides financial support for organisations whose work is having a positive impact on the community. It was launched in 2005 in south Leeds and now also operates in Livingston and Bristol.
