Glasgow Chamber of Commerce today (Feb 9) welcomed the announcement that the headquarters function of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult - the £50m technology innovation project funded by the UK Technology Strategy Board - will be located within Scottish Enterprise's flagship International Technology and Renewable Energy Zone in Glasgow.
Chief executive Stuart Patrick said: "This commitment to Glasgow confirms the growing view that the city is developing as a genuine hub for renewable energy research and development, and provides another welcome boost to the city's international renewable energy zone - following on from Strathclyde University's commitment to a Technology and Innovation Centre.
"It also complements last week's good news that Samsung Heavy Industries is to base its first European offshore wind project in Fife, with Clyde Blowers supplying gearbox systems for its next generation offshore wind turbine.
"Glasgow will now provide the impetus behind the sector's research and development, working alongside the manufacturing and delivery capabilities in many other parts of Scotland."
