Glasgow-based Aggreko showed the way by securing a £37m contract to become the exclusive power supplier to the London 2012 Olympics late last year.

There will be many contracts for 2012, especially in the service industries, up for grabs - and we will highlight as many as possible on this website in the months leading up to the Games

Here are just some examples:

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has announced commencement of its tender process to appoint a supplier to supply and, in certain instances, deploy crowd control barriers.  To be able to tender for this contract, businesses need to be registered on CompeteFor - www.CompeteFor.com - the chosen website for advertising London 2012 opportunities.  Further helpful information, top tips and downloadable guidance materials on CompeteFor is available via the Business Gateway website at  www.bgateway.com >  Sales and marketing > Tender for London 2012 Olympic contracts. The closing date for registering interest in this contract opportunity, which needs to be done via the CompeteFor website, is 1600 on March 14 2011.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has announced commencement of its tender process for selecting suppliers for the removal and/or modification, after the Olympic Games, of existing infrastructure and buildings built for the Games and some new build elements associated with 1) transformation of the North Olympic Park 2) transformation of the South Olympic Park. The closing date for registering interest in these opportunities, which needs to be done via London 2012 eTendering site - https://etenders.london2012.com -  is specified in the individual bulletins and ranges from 1200 on April 11 2011.

We will do the same with contract opportunities for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
