Take That 1

Take That.

Signs from Glasgow's hospitality sector indicate that Take That's three-day stint at Hampden will be a real boon for the city.

With 160 000 fans filling Glasgow's hotels to capacity midweek and using bars, shops and restaurants both in the city centre and also closer to Hampden, the benefits are significant and are estimated to run into millions of pounds.

Extra trains, buses and even flights are being put on to ferry gig-goers from around Scotland to Glasgow for the group's only visit north of the border as part of their Progress tour.

This really shows the importance to Glasgow of growing our leisure tourism offering by attracting more and more such occasions - aided by the development of new venues such as the 12,000-seater Hydro Arena now under construction at the SECC.

Glasgow has a proven track record of investing in the attraction and management of events.  We need to continue to work to ensure transport provision for such events is adequate, providing an all-round great experience for visitors and event goers alike, further cementing Glasgow's city development skills.
